If you’ve ever felt unsure how to best support a child or young person’s learning journey—especially if they’re neurodivergent—you’re not alone. Education can be complex, and sometimes families, schools and students themselves need a bit of extra support. That’s where educational consulting comes in.
So, what is educational consulting?
Educational consulting involves working alongside families, schools and individuals to help tailor learning environments and strategies that support success. It’s about understanding what’s going on beneath the surface and helping people thrive—not just academically, but emotionally and socially too.
How my approach is different: neuro-affirming and non-pathologising
At Bright Feathers Counselling & Consulting, I take a neuro-affirming approach to educational consulting. That means I don’t see neurodivergence as something that needs to be ‘fixed’. I see it as a natural part of human diversity.
Rather than focusing on deficits, I focus on strengths, interests, and individual learning styles. I draw on my background in teaching, learning support, behaviour, and counselling to provide holistic strategies that make sense in the real world. Whether we’re working on advocacy, executive functioning, school engagement or collaborative support planning—I aim to make things practical, respectful, and empowering.
Who I support
I work with families, young people, daycares, preschools, primary and high schools and allied health professionals. Some families come to me when they’re overwhelmed by NDIS reports, school meetings, or unclear expectations. Others just need a sounding board or some gentle guidance. Schools often reach out for staff and parent workshops, behaviour insights, or help navigating the needs of neurodivergent students in inclusive ways.
Why it matters
Educational systems weren’t built with every brain in mind—but we can make them better. When we create supportive environments and shift our mindset to one of understanding and acceptance, everyone benefits.
